Description
Image title: NGC 6302 Hubble 2009.
Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 produced this amazing image of the Planetary Nebula NGC 6302, on July 27, 2009. NGC 6302 is in our Milky Way galaxy about 3,800 light-years away in the constellation Scorpios and is more than 2 light-years across. The star in the middle, having a whopping 400,000 degrees Fahrenheit temperature, is hidden by a massive ring of dust that forces the gaseous outflow into the shape of an hourglass.
Our thanks to NASA, ESA and the Hubble SM4 ERO Team for the use of this image.
