Description
Image title: Comets Kick up Dust in Helix Nebula (PIA09178).
This is a picture of the Helix Nebula photographed in infrared by the NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope. It is in a class known as "Planetary Nebula" and is an estimated 700 light-years from Earth in the constellation Aquarius. While any planets would have been destroyed when the star died, this nebula shows signs of comet activity.
Our thanks to NASA/JPL-Caltech/Univ. of Ariz. for the use of this image.
