Monet - Art

Oscar-Claude Monet Nov. 14, 1840 to Dec. 5, 1926 at age 86. Monet was known as the father of the impressionist movement. When the French Academie des Beaux-Arts refused to exhibit Monet and his contemporary associates like Pissarro and Renoir, they formed The Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors and Engravers. At the Societies first exhibition in 1874, Monet included his 1872 painting “ Impression, Sunrise “. In the art critic Louis Leroy’s review of the event, he referred to the band of artist as “impressionist” which was intended to ridicule them. Turns out the artist liked the term very much. It became their cornerstone.
